Casino paid a compensation of €440,000 to the addicted gambler
Addicted gambler is a person who suffers from gambling addiction (in slang - ludoman). This disease is close to the drug and alcohol addiction and progresses together with the development of land-based and online casino industry.
One rather curious story that happened between the casino and the gambler is connected with this ailment. During five years, from 2006 to 2010, one Austrian lost to the casino, which belonged to Group Novomatic about €800 thousand. After realizing he won’t get this money back, he started a law suit against the casino. The basic claim was the one that the losses were made because of incapacity of the prosecutor, who seemed to be ill with gambling addiction.
After the diagnose was confirmed by the doctor, court approved the law suit and made the casino pay compensation of a half of the lost money at €440 thousand. Group Novomatic lawyers admitted they were surprised by the court decision but had to except it.
