Iceland: online casinos have chances to be legalized
Not very long ago a document with a proposal to change attitude towards online gambling to more condoning one was filed to the Parliament of Iceland. William Thor Thompson - the author of the third statement of that kind - was supported by 12 politicians who are aware of the possibility for the government (in case online casinos are regularized) to control a completely new sector and also get additional profit as taxes.
Right now online gambling is banned in Iceland though the global recession has made the government search new sources of income. In this regard new tourist gambling sectors gained traction in Iceland. It’s worth mentioning that tourism still stays the major funding source for the government and the regulating of gambling business is expected to affect the growth of the state budget.
William Thor Thompson has made his proposal based on statistical data: according to the source more than 70% of Icelanders are fond of gambling games. The government, in its turn, is trying to create favorable conditions both for players and gambling places within the country. The fact that Iceland joined the top-3 countries with lowest % of prohibitions against gambling places is a living proof for that.
In case online casinos are legalized the government of Iceland will get an additional income source and gambling games’ fans - an opportunity to play their favorite games legally both offline and online.
